Hawley, Pa. -

Looking for their tenth win in a row, the Hawley Post 311 Junior Legion Baseball Team took to the diamond in the second game of a double-header that saw the Senior Legion take down Delaware Valley in the first contest.

Will McLaughlin was on the mound for the Toros and after jamming the bases on two hit batters and a single it looked as though West Scranton was going to strike first, but not today, not on the Shores of the Big Lake as the Toros jumped out to an early lead and hung on to win 6-3.

After filling up the bases in the first, McLaughlin settled down and pitched his way out of the jam, forcing the next batter to knock a groundball to Jake DeSane who was playing third. He scooped up the grounder and threw home to catcher Rob Cameron for the force out. The next batter popped up to DeSane and then McLaughlin threw a fastball for a strike three to end the inning, erasing any possible threat of moving the scoreboard in favor of the visiting team.

In the bottom half of the frame the Toros’ lead-off man Kenny Ciszak reached base in his first at-bat and eventually finished the game going three for four with three stolen bases and two runs scored. When the first inning ended the host-team had a solid two-nothing lead.

McLaughlin ended up pitching four scoreless innings for the win and allowed only three hits and no runs while striking out four batters. Grant Schafer closed out the game picking up the save and allowing only four hits.

All in all the Toros played flawless defensive baseball giving up zero errors in seven innings.

Ciszak picked up three of Hawley’s seven hits in the game. Joe Bias had a double, a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt a run scored and an RBI. DeSane and Steve Camasta each had a base-knock with DeSane crossing the plate once and collecting two RBI’s. McLaughlin reached base twice on walks and scored twice. Rob Cameron added two RBI’s.
