The Bucks were looking to close out the season with a win on Saturday at Battaglia-Cawley Field in Scranton, but ran into another tough pitcher and were left with only three hits for the second game in a row.
The Bucks lost the game 4-0 and dropped to 9-4 on the season while West Scranton improved to 10-3. The Bucks have two games to play while West has just one remaining.
For the second consecutive game the Buckhorn batters faced some great pitching. Last Tuesday, they played Scranton Prep and Steve Arcure was on fire striking out 14 in the three-hitter. On Saturday, they faced another pitcher who was throwing some heat, Matt McGloin. McGloin was wreaking havoc on the batters all day and only gave up hits in the second, sixth and seventh innings, while striking out nine in the process.
The Invaders only collected five hits of their own as Ryan Loughran and Nick DeFebo were throwing well for the Buckhorns. The hits the Invaders got were costly though as they scored one run in the second and three runs in the fifth to secure the lead and pull away with first place in the division standings.
Joe DeFebo went one for three on the day with a double in the sixth. Corey Capone and Chris Ortiz each collected a hit a piece in the loss.
Corey Linden is currently in a tie for fourth place in the league leaders category of doubles with four.
Ryan Loughran is sitting in a tie for second for most wins this year by a pitcher with a total of four. Loughran is also in fourth place for strikeouts with 40.
Nick DeFebo sits on top of the leaderboard for saves this season with three and Cody McCuen is in a tie for second with one.
