REGION - Every year the Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society (NEPAS) presents a $4,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in an environmental field.
    Kristin DeVilliers is this year’s scholarship winner. Daughter of David and Dawn DeVilliers, Kristin is a 2014 graduate of Delaware Valley High School in Milford and she will be attending Unity College in Maine. She plans a double major in Captive Wildlife Care and Education and Adventure Education.
    After volunteering as an intern with the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, Kristin became interested in captive wildlife care. Although she cheerfully cleans cages at the rehabilitation center, she has also gained valuable veterinarian experience. Assisting the Director Bill Streeter with veterinary work that includes care of the birds. Kristin has taken x-rays of the broken wing of a Red Shouldered Hawk and force-fed a Golden Eagle. Aside from assisting the Streeter, Kristen has also enjoyed bird bandings and hawk watches.
    "The Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society is proud to support the youth of our area through college and camp scholarships," said Society officials. The funding for these scholarships is generated from the Art and Craft Festival held each summer. This year’s festival will be July 19 and 20 at Wallenpaupack Area High School.
