MONROE COUNTY (June 4) - A body was recovered from the Delaware River Saturday in Upper Mount Bethel Township, one week after a male boater went missing in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Authorities have not released the identity of the person whose body was recovered.

A canoe carrying 39-year-old Cheeyan Yap, of Farmingdale, New Jersey, and a female boater capsized on May 25 just north of the Interstate 80 toll bridge, the National Park Service announced in a series of press releases last week. The woman, who is not named in the releases, was rescued by passing boaters, but a search ensued for the missing man.

Reportedly, neither of the boaters were wearing a life jacket when the boat capsized.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek could not release further information at this time regarding the identity of the person whose body was recovered, he said on Monday. Lysek declined to comment about the exact time or location the body was discovered.

Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast are investigating the recovery, which occurred outside of the boundaries of the recreation area, NPS spokeswoman Kathleen Sandt wrote in a Monday morning email. A state trooper was not immediately available for comment at the time of this story.
