Wallenpaupack Area youth football program hosts annual event

The Wallenpaupack Area Junior Buckhorns recently wrapped up their regular season at home against the squads from North Scranton on October 14.

Things were mixed this year for the Jr. Bucks.

While the C-Team (8-10-year-olds) posted a 6-3 record in the All-County Conference Junior Football League, the B-Team (10-12-year-olds) closed at 4-5.

Rocky Road

The B-Squad started off well with a 21-13 win over Dunmore and then handed a 7-0 setback to Tunkhannock in Week Two.

Against Old Forge during the third week they tacked up a 7-6 win against Old Forge but then were shut out 20-0 by Abington South in week four.

Paupack posted a big 33-6 win against the Delaware Football League in week five, but that would be the last time they’d put a scratch in the win column this fall.

Four straight losses dampened the end of the Buckhorns schedule as the fell to Abington North, 26-6; Olyphant, 38-6; Wayne Highlands, 27-6; and North Scranton, 19-0.

Solid Strides

The Purple & White’s C-Squad carved a better path than the B-Team.

A 12-6 loss to Dunmore in Week One was balanced with a 27-6 win against Tunkhannock in the second week.

They notched another win in week three by shutting out Old Forge 21-0 but then took a 6-0 hit thanks to Abington South.

More ups and downs followed.

Week five produced a nice 14-0 victory versus Delaware but then they were handed a 19-0 loss the next Sunday by Abington North.

Things really came together at the end though.

Paupack allowed no touchdowns through its last three games.

In week seven they shut down Olyphant 22-0, beat Wayne Highlands 19-0 in week eight, and closed with a 20-0 decision against North Scranton.

Playoff Bound

The Bucks I-Team All-Stars head to Lakeland this Saturday while the B and C squads begin their quest for the ACCJFL title.

At Delaware, the B-Team will face Wayne Highlands following the C-Team’s bout against Old Forge, which kicks off at noon on Sunday afternoon.
